May all your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view......where something strange and more beautiful and more full of wonder than your deepest dreams waits for you.

Life like the Oregon Trail

Short update today, just wanted to tell everyone I have typhoid fever and salmonella. Good thing I spent $100 on the vaccine! Its easily treatable, but I have to switch to drinking bottled water now, unfortunately. I guess the water at the orphanage was not safe to be drinking. Oh well.

Also, one of the children at the orphanage broke his leg - Mwangi, the two year old. He has to stay at a hospital two hours away for 6 weeks and must be accompanied by a staff at all times. I am going to use a good deal of the donated money to help cover his costs and the costs associated with sending staff there (transport and meals). So I cannot really take a photo of this, but the money will be used where it is most needed. Pray for his speedy recovery - he broke his femur and it shoved into the muscle and he is in a LOT of pain.

Thank you to all of those who donated money to me. I should have access to it early next week and will be able to let you know exactly how it will all be spent.

And to all my Clevelanders, have a little faith, we've been through worse before, and besides Lebron's head seems to be getting a bit too big to fit in our fair city.

  1. DEAR PRECIOUS GIRL, OH HOW OUR HEARTS HURT THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS BUMP ON YOUR ROAD IN KENYA. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. AND STICK TO THE BOTTLED H2O WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET IT.

    I AM SO THANKFUL FOR YOUR HEART TO WANT TO HELP IN A MONETARY WAY WITH YOUR DONATIONS IS SO HEARTWARMING TO US. WE KNOW YOU SEE SO MANY MORE NEEDS THAN MANY DONATIONS CAN FILL BUT EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.

  2. Emily,

    I know we already talked but what a bummer you have typhoid. I hope you feel better today and that the fever has gone down.

    I am so sorry to hear about little Mwanga. Poor little guy. I know it's hard to trust sometimes, but God promises that He never slumbers nor sleeps when it comes to caring for us.

    Psalm 121

    1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
    where does my help come from?
    2 My help comes from the LORD,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

    3 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;

    4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

    5 The LORD watches over you—
    the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

    6 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

    7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;

    8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

    I love you,
    Mom

  3. Emily,

    I posted about two hours ago, but it has not shown up, so I am trying again. If you get this message twice, just disregard. I know we talked yesterday, so I hope you are feeling better today and I hope that your fever has gone down.

    I am really sorry hear about Mwangi. Poor little guy. I hope some of our donations can be used to ease his pain.

    Right now it might seem a bit overwhelming with being sick but remember how much He cares for you. He never slumbers nor sleeps in His watch over us.

    where does my help come from?

  5. Emily,
    I am finally catching up with your blog after our little adventure in Canada. I can feel from your writing that you are learning a lot about life and about yourself. This is a good thing and will serve you well for the rest of your life. Don't worry about your decisions right now, take in the experience fully as you are and pray that God will reveal the next right step for you. Trust in that and you will be fine.

    I love you,

    Dad
